Birthday Tangerine Tree
Watering: Water your tangerine weekly 1-2 times. The best technique is to water the soil around the tree and let it soak in before adding more water. Sun: Tangerines like plenty of sun, 6 hours a day Fertilizing: Fertilize during the warmer spring and summer season with citrus specific fertilizer. Do so once every 6 weeks, ease back during the fall and winter season. Pruning: You can prune your tangerine any season, cut off any dead or crossing limbs to allow for new healthy growth.
Select a location with plenty of sunlight. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball. Gently loosen roots and set the tree into the hole. Fill the hole with soil and tap it down. Water well to encourage root establishment.
It is safe to keep your tangerine outdoors as long as temperatures are above 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Move your tree indoors if kept in a container. If outdoors, loosely cover young tangerine trees with a plant blanket or tarp when temperatures drop below freezing.
Potting & Container
You’ll need a container that leaves plenty of room for growth. Tangerine trees like neutral soil, place your tree in a pot and fill the area around the roots with soil. Water and keep the soil moist, but not wet. Fertilize at least twice a year with a citrus fertilizer. As the tree grows they need to be repotted every two- three years.
